Cigarette Tickets

Based out of the Washington Metropolitan area “Cigarette does something rare with their music in that they do less with more,” suggests-Valerie Paschall of the DCist. “Their songs have a minimalist, almost catatonic effect, as if the listener has stumbled into a dream or some other ethereal plane. The band sounds as if they’ve effectively soundtracked a nature walk or a dream. It’s powerful, yet soft-spoken.“ Cigarette is six equal parts: Ben Brown, Drew Hagelin, Evan Napala, Johnny Ward and brothers Jonathan & Richard Howard. Collaborative in nature, Cigarette writes their songs as a group. In the writing and live settings Cigarette often changes who is playing what instrument, adding an almost ballet element to their performances so as not to disturb the vibe presented. Their instrumentation is comprised of but not limited to guitars, drums, bass, viola, clarinet, lap steel, trumpet & a Rhodes stage piano. There is nuance and subtlety in the world they vision. There is no one voice in Cigarette. They sing together or alone, whichever is most effective. The personality of the group explores & expresses a span of emotions and concepts. Cigarette enjoys a touch of mystique. Forming in 2009, Cigarette’s line up changed frequently. In 2010 the group solidified to its current form. They rehearsed in the basement of a day care, recorded and self released a demo cassette titled ‘blush’. In 2011 they released another demo and toured the US that summer. In the fall/winter of 2011 & 2012 they recorded their first full length album, which is yet to be released.
